my two cents - revised
This Hard to Handle is awesome, but my favorite Weir solo for this song is from 4-28 , and for the Jerry solo and Phil bombs and the Pig rap I strongly prefer 4-22-71. Not that 4-22-71 is more intense, I just like the melodic interplay better. Also my favorite Morning Dew is from 4-28-71, and I don't even like this one. Unfortunately the commercial release picked 4-29.
As for my take on this show, it's definitely in my top 10 for about 50% of the songs (the other half I skip over). I've been listening to this Fillmore run since '84 and I still adore it. Particularly love Bill's drums on Minglewood, Phil's bass on Sugar Mag and like others have said below the Alligator>Cold Rain has to be some of the best music I have ever heard. Also love the Midnight Hour.

Incomplete Show
Thanx Marty, Dr. Michael, Steven, and Jack. What a great show. Despite all the cleaning up this one is still a mess. Sound is all over the place. I welcome this until a cleaner copy comes my way. The first set is missing Cumberland thru Playing. Also missing is the infamous Bill chastising the crowd at the end. How dare they ask for more! Though listed correct on the download, Loser and Dark Hollow are reversed. If you have to have the correct order beware. Peace

yes you're right
yes i had this show on tape and it's true the x-x-x st. copie of the soundboard sounds much better than this audience tape. at least it'sa great show listen it a 100 times or so (i told you i live in the swiss mountains, so bevor the days of internet i had not many tapes to listen to). I've allready downloadet it at gdlive.com, you don't have to steal it. thanks a lot for reopenig this site (who ever is responsible for that). Please visit my Homepage:

Disapointing Aud Tape
Wow...this show is so much better than this really poor audience tape lets on. Beg, borrow or steal (dont steal) do whatever you can to get the soundboard for this show...this recording is missing 99.5% of the energy and pure magic that exuded from every song. The Hard to Handle (board) is truly Pig-Pen at his ulimate, craggy, croony Best. But this recording is painfull to hear after growing up on the board tape. Get the board, in my opinion, the greatest Dead Show ever.

nice
great show indeed. but the recording here is less than spectacular. Especially after listening to a sweet 71 audience in 8/6

quality trippin' tunes
I can still remember the first time I heard that alligator>drums>St.Stephen(tease)>G.D.T.R.F.B. What else can I say except pure Grateful Dead magic,You can hear the energy crackling as the jam picks up and takes off into the unknown reaches of galaxy Dead. This is the Dead at their most extraordinary...

clean sound, well recorded...long listen
This is a pretty good show, though Jerry's vocals seem uninspired and anemic at times. Phil's bass is strong and distinct which I like. Haven't got to disc two yet. Still wading through all the silences. I guess they were having technical difficulties, and there are long stretches of nothing. Purists will dig it, but it makes for a very long listen when there are hundreds of shows I haven't heard yet. On other shows I often enjoy Bob's snide remarks about the crew or equipment when things go awry, but here there is none of that. No explanation what the problem is. No "Think good thoughts," from Jerry. Thanks to everyone involved in the recording of this show and all the hard work of bringing it to the masses.
